New hyaluronic acid products are now available for the correction of wrinkles. They can easily be injected into the skin, are very stable, and ensure a long-lasting cosmetic result. This new type of hyaluronic acid spreads evenly through the skin, creating a smooth transition between treated and non-treated areas. This anti-wrinkle treatment results in a particularly natural, beautiful appearance.

The following areas are particularly suited to treatment with fillers: Superficial wrinkles, e.g. crow's feet or upper lip wrinkles, moderate to deeper wrinkles, e.g. forehead lines, wrinkles around the nose and mouth. These new products are ideally suited to increasing lip volume or improving contours.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in all living organisms. It combines with water in the tissue, enabling it to perform a variety of functions. It gives shape to the eyes, elasticity to the joints, and lends volume and tone to the skin. In its natural form, hyaluronic acid is very quickly broken down by the body. However, hyaluronic acid can be stabilised by making a very slight change to its structure, allowing it to remain in the tissue for a longer period of time.

The preparations differ from one another in terms of how they are produced. I use preparations by Restylane®, Juvederm® and Macrolane®. These preparations are manufactured using non-animal substances, and complement one another perfectly. These preparations have been used to treat several million people worldwide.

The choice of treatment methods in aesthetic medicine is based on two aspects: the patient's wishes and the initial clinical situation. The suitability of treatment methods (and in some cases treatment combinations) varies on an individual basis. Discussion of potential alternative treatments should therefore form part of an individual consultation.

Tiny quantities of filler are injected through a thin needle beneath the fold of skin to be treated, or into the lips and along the contours of the lips. The appearance of most facial wrinkles can be improved with just one treatment. For optimum results, wrinkles around the mouth occasionally require 2 to 3 treatments within a period of a few weeks.

The treatment may be slightly painful. Correction of forehead or nasolabial wrinkles can usually be performed without local anaesthetic. Topical numbing creams can be applied one hour before treatment, if required. Slight paresthesia caused by the injection generally occurs in the first 2 to 3 days after treatment.

The duration of the effect varies on an individual basis. As a general rule when using hyaluronic acid, 1-2 treatments per year for wrinkles and 2-3 treatments per year for the lips are required to achieve the desired effect. The treatment can be repeated as often as the patient wishes.

Please let us know

  • If you have already used other anti-wrinkle products (many preparations cannot be combined with one another).
  • If you have taken any blood-thinning medication in the 7 days prior to treatment (e.g. medication containing acetylsalicylic acid, vitamin E or medication or preparations containing gingko, including multivitamin preparations. These can increase the risk of haematoma (effusions of blood) after treatment.
  • If you are aware of any allergy to injectable fillers
  • If you are pregnant and/or breastfeeding as it is not advisable to undergo treatment in this instance.

Many patients undergo anti-wrinkle injection at the end of a working day, or just before the weekend in the case of a lip injection. If any minor skin irritations that arise are then covered up, the patient's colleagues should generally be unable to notice that treatment has taken place, apart from observing the desired positive effect.

Treatments involving hyaluronic acid have been performed many thousands of times across the globe. The vast majority of treated patients are satisfied with the results and experience no appreciable side effects. However, no medical procedure is guaranteed to be completely risk free. Injection-related reactions often occur after treatment, e.g. swelling, redness, pain, itching, discolouration and sensitivity in the treated areas. Such reactions generally subside of their own accord a few days after injection into the skin, or within a week for injection into the lips. The doctor treating you will provide you with additional information.

Jawline

Treatment targeting the jawline is an excellent way to achieve defined facial contours. Hyaluronic acid fillers can lift and firm up the appearance of drooping or sagging areas of the face. In addition, precise corrections also allow us to make the jawbone appear smaller. By contrast, men can use jawline contouring to accentuate their jawbone and give their face a more masculine appearance.

Cheeks

Unwanted wrinkles, which in many cases criss-cross over the entire cheek region, often make people look older than they actually are. These wrinkles and creases form over time, particularly in people who suffer from dry skin and spend a lot of time in the sun. Hyaluronic acid fillers are a gentle and effective way to correct cheek wrinkles. In addition, using hyaluronic acid to add volume to the cheeks helps to achieve defined facial contours.

Nose

Hyaluronic acid can be used to balance out slight unevenness or imperfections and offers an alternative to surgical nose correction. This minimally invasive treatment method also allows us to avoid the surgical risks associated with conventional rhinoplasty. In addition, hyaluronic acid breaks down of its own accord after a period of time, which means that the treatment results can be reversed. This is obviously not an option in the case of surgical nose correction. These injections can also be used to correct unwanted nose wrinkles, also known as “bunny lines”. Injecting Botulinum toxin into the muscle responsible for the wrinkles enables us to reduce its activity. As a result, the wrinkles smooth out.

Chin

Chin wrinkles can often make a person look angry or older than they actually are but can be corrected effectively with hyaluronic acid or Botulinum toxin injections. A person might have a single wrinkle running straight across their skin or several wrinkles criss-crossing across their entire chin. Both types can be treated effectively to create a younger appearance. Hyaluronic acid can also be used to good effect to improve the appearance of a receding chin and add volume. It makes the chin appear more pronounced, creating a profile perfectly tailored to the patient’s facial proportions.
